What are the Benefits of Yoga Nidra? – On a physical level you will experience deeper rest and sleep. The practice invites deep emotional healing. On a psychological level you feel more integrated. Spiritually speaking, in the experience of this writer it is the gateway to Presence. There are many more benefits to Yoga Nidra and I take this opportunity to share some here.

Less Worried
One of the major addictions, if not the primary addiction, especially in the Western world is the addiction to over-thinking.
This is so prevalent that it is, in the words of the modern mystic Eckhart Tolle, “The normal insanity.” It leads to trying to resolve problems that have been created by the very mind that is trying to solve the problem.
A problem cannot be solved at the level of consciousness at which it was created. – Albert Einstein
Obsessive over-thinking leads to rumination and depression. This is one of the growth areas of unease in the Western world.
The over-thinking personal mind – the voice in your head – keeps you locked into the world of opposites. You then live in opposition to yourself.
With inner body awareness practice you learn how to tune into the sensational rather than mental chatter which drives you to worry and rumination.

You are a unique expression of the Dance of Life. This dance is experienced through the body. It cannot be fully experienced through mental concepts driven by the voice in your head.
The practice of Yoga Nidra and inner body awareness takes you into learning how to listen to the body and into ways of KNOWING and sensing that you have forgotten.
In the beginning this will feel strange. It will appear as if nothing is happening. The voice in your head, which most people are totally identified with, will assure you that this is the case. It will try to convince you that you are getting nowhere.
This thinking that nothing is happening is normal.
All you are required is to witness the judgements and not follow them. You simply focus on either the breath moving in and out of the body or you simply sense the body.
The problem for the personal mind is that it wants to do something when inner body awareness and sensing is cultivating a practice of trusting the power and blessing of doing nothing.

Experiencing Greater Creativity
With a committed practice of inner body awareness facilitated by the practice of Yoga Nidra you will begin to experience a life of enhanced creativity.
This is because you are regularly tuning into the Source of All Creatiity which is not your personal mind and certainly not the voice in your head.
In the practice of inner body awareness or body scanning you are learning to still the mind by simply observing it (the practice of witness consciousness).
The personal mind does now create anew. It is the equivalent of shifting deckchairs on the Titanic.
This enhanced experience of creativity will not from thinking about but through open mindedness. With the practice of non-judgement of thoughts, with a focus on breathing you begin to trust the silence and the spaciousness within you. Dare I say that you will learn to love it.

Deeper Communion
A reflection of the inner voice in the head is the level of noise and communication in the world. Evidence the proliferation of communication devices that never get switched off.
This reflects the way in which the personal mind is never switched off. It leads to epidemic of stress and information overload. People start to live some distance from their body.
Inner body awareness is the practice of switching off your primary communication device which is always on – the personal mind. Once switched off you become available for communion and transformation. You become still and get to be KNOWN through.
Let silence take you to the core of life – Rumi
With communion you get to feel more rather than emote more.
You begin to be more responsive and less reactive. You become sense enabled – sensible. Emotions are recognized as different from feelings. Emotions are feelings with thoughts attached.
Feelings are the free flow of your energy system – your Y.E.S.
Deeper Intelligence
With the practice of Yoga Nidra and inner body awareness you begin to become a KNOWER. This is someone who is developing spiritual intelligence and not someone practicing spiritual bypassing.

This sleep is the world of everyday experience. It is, to use a movie metaphor, being locked into The Matrix.
Inner body awareness practice and Yoga Nidra is where you consciously choose to take the red pill and adventure into the wonderland of KNOWING who and why you are.
Deeper Commitment
With a daily practice of inner body scanning via Yoga Nidra you begin to experience meditative states.
If you find meditation practice difficult then this practice of inner body awareness done while lying down may be for you. This practice of Yoga Nidra is my favourite practice. I don’t have to push myself to do it.
I practice while lying in bed in the morning and before I go to sleep. If I feel tired during the day I will practice for a short time.
Because I love this practice, I do not have t force myself to do it. It becomes something I enjoy. I find my day is very different when I do not practice. I feel less centred and tend to be more reactive.
With commitment the benefits are cumulative.
Creativity, peace of mind, responsibility and living a sensational life become the norm rather than second hand living from the addiction to the conceptual over-thinking mind.

Greater Well Being
A daily practice of inner body scanning via Yoga Nidra leads to increased well-being. You go to the well of being and in the silence, you drink in the healing power of Presence.

The word ‘Being’ like the word ‘Presence’ cannot be described in words because words are always dualistic.
Being and Presence are felt.
They are connected to the experience of feeling fine. Feeling fine is related to the fineness of the breath when the mind is still.
The breath is the key to stilling the over-thinking personal mind that leads to KNOWING and wellness.
With overthinking you to a degree disassociate from the body. Many medicate it thus often supressing the energetic information it is feeding you.
With inner body awareness practice you learn to honour the signals of the body that tell you when you are out of alignment with the flow of Y.E.S – your energy system.

The body is the vehicle through which the intelligence of healing flows.
This is provided you give this healing flow a chance by honouring it and not being in hock to the normal obsession of the personal overthinking mind.
This is the everyday mind that creates the unease that is the life of most people.
Inner body awareness leads you to feeling you are, in the words of the poet W.B. Yeats, an “Oh Sweet Dancer.” You become a sweet dancer who can declare, “I know, I know I know.”
You know who and why you are. You are in alignment with the flow of the Lord of the Dance.
