Learning how to open the root chakra is an essential life skill. Without this skill, you will struggle to live a truly prosperous life.

How to open the root chakra begins with the return to the body.  You move away from the overthinking analytical, logical mind. You trust the intelligence of inner body KNOWING. This becomes your way of BEING rooted and grounded in the world. This has to be a practice you commit to each day.

To explore this question related to knowing when the root chakra is open, I will share my reflections as follows:-

How to Open Root Chakra Menu

In this way, I hope that you realize the essential need to balance and align the root chakra so you create a foundation for living a life of real prosperity, purpose, and peace moving from Presence. (higher chakra dynamics)

Key Aspect of Root Chakra

root chakra mandala painting by Svetlana Leschenko

As a writer about the premier life map that is the 7-chakra healing system, I like to focus on a single word for each chakra.

The single word that sums up the dynamic of the root chakra is “safety.” This is “safety” in all its aspects—physical, emotional, and psychological.

The root chakra (Muladhara) is the foundational chakra.

It forms the foundation of the personality within the 1st 7 years of life. (1st chakra life cycle)  It is the chakra of the unconscious. This is the foundation for living in this dimension of time and space.

I cannot overstate the importance of learning how to open the root chakra is. My view is that without this knowledge your entire energy system will be out of balance.

If you were to do nothing more than learn how to open the root chakra then you will find greater prosperity and flow in your life.  There will be a feeling of greater inner security leading to the manifestation of outer security.

How the Root Chakra Gets Blocked

My view is that most everyone lives with a blocked root chakra for most of their lives. The world does not feel a safe place for many people.  There are wars, there are famines and so many disasters that could befall any one of us both individually and collectively.

This sense of mistrust is not how we enter the world. (William Wordsworth – Ode to Immortality)

Extract from Ode- Intimations of Immortality by William Wordsworth – mystic poet.

Our birth is but a sleep and a forgetting:
The Soul that rises with us, our life’s Star,
Hath had elsewhere its setting,
And cometh from afar:
Not in entire forgetfulness,
And not in utter nakedness,
But trailing clouds of glory do we come
From God, who is our home:
Heaven lies about us in our infancy!
Shades of the prison-house begin to close
Upon the growing Boy,
But he beholds the light, and whence it flows,
He sees it in his joy;
The Youth, who daily farther from the east
Must travel, still is Nature’s Priest,
And by the vision splendid
Is on his way attended;
At length the Man perceives it die away,
And fade into the light of common day.

Feeling unsafe is a learned way of relating to the world.  We all learn this way of relationship.  We get rooted in fear. Some of us have deeper issues regarding trust and safety than others, but we all have such trust and safety issues.

The journey of chakra alignment and balance ultimately brings you to a state of being where you feel safe and secure and to a degree fearless.  This is because you realize that you are not apart from, or have ever been apart from, the whole of life.

Come, come, whoever you are. Wanderer, worshiper, lover of leaving. It doesn’t matter. Ours is not a caravan of despair. come, even if you have broken your vows a thousand times. Come, yet again , come , come. ― Jalaluddin Rumi

You need to KNOW how the root chakra gets blocked to learn how to open the root chakra and balance the energy within it.

The person I think is the person authorized to share why root chakra blockage is the brilliant Gabor Mate.  The reason for such blockage he calls “Attachment versus Authenticity.”

I think there is no better way to understand root chakra blockage than to listen to this brief introduction on how safety gets compromised in the 1st 7 years of life (1st chakra life cycle) This is essential learning for knowing how to open the root chakra.

Worse Root Chakra Healing Practices

Here is what I regard as some New Age fluffy advice related to healing, balancing, and aligning the root chakra.

Please note – Do not take my advice.

Explore these aspects for yourself if you are drawn to do so.  It’s better that you learn from direct experience rather than from more information.

No decent spiritual educator tells you what to do.  They point you in a direction whereby you learn to explore and trust your own energy.

However, I will point out where I think you can get distracted.

These are what I call fluffy teachings that suggest you will heal root chakra imbalance by engaging with such practice/s.

  • Eating grounding foods.
  • Chanting LAM.
  • Drinking Herbal Teas.
  • Listening to Tones
  • Wearing red clothing.

Please note that there is nothing wrong with any of the above.

However, it is my view that they invite you into “magical thinking.”  This is where you hope that things will change without having to engage with genuine issues.

These are the genuine issues of fear, shame, abandonment, and not belonging.  These are challenging issues and a cup of herbal tea might help, but it won’t heal.
