Traditionally the heart chakra animal is the antelope. The antelope is a symbol of air connected to the Earth. Each chakra animal symbolizes the characteristics and attributes of the chakra they represent.
The antelope therefore symbolises the connection between the above and the below. No matter how high we climb in a spiritual sense it is important to remain grounded and connected to the body. (Root Chakra – 1st Chakra – Red Chakra).
There are archetypal animals associated with each chakra and also personal chakra animals associated with each chakra.
My personal chakra animal associated with the heart chakra is the eagle. The eagle is associated with intelligence, renewal and courage.
In Philip Carr-Gomm’s The Druid Animal Oracle: Working with the Sacred Animals of the Druidic Tradition, we are told
The eagle, when accepted, will also show you the way to renew and rejuvenate yourself by demonstrating the art of plunging – at just the right moment- into the lake of the heart. The symbol of the eagle and the lake invites us to remember to periodically allow our intellect, our rational mind, the opportunity to plunge into the deep water of our emotional life and subconscious. This is the work of aligning the sacral chakra. (Sacral chakra) In this way knowledge is transformed into wisdom, which is the intelligence of the heart.
These personal chakra animals can appear in your dreams. Sometimes this is in a symbolic way.
For example, in one of my dreams I encounter the eagle by meeting a member of The Eagles rock group.
I meet with one of The Eagles and he plays guitar while sitting at a small circular table, which is a representation of the sun. The feeling of being with this member of the Eagles is one of excitement.
If we pay attention to the personal chakra animals over time you will begin to notice them appear in your everyday life as well as in your dreams.
These intimations give guidance beyond the limitation of intellect.
